I describe my approach as "intra-realism" — a commitment to internal, psychological truths rather than merely depicting external realities; emotion over accuracy is a guiding principle. My work references past and present artistic movements and major works from the art history pantheon. Familiar themes can be immediately acknowledged by the viewer while creating a sense of discomfort and unease within the altered, contemporary, and “intra-realist” context.
My paintings explore the tensions between opposites: faith and science, tragedy and absurdity, the sacred and the mundane. Using classical techniques and iconography blended with contemporary visual language, I create works where figures, symbols, and compositions clash, converge, and transform — much like life itself. I portray these tensions physically and spiritually; repeating figures caught between halos and hazards, distorted sacred geometry, and symbols that drift in and out of meaning.
